Couples Therapy Services in Saint Paul
Couples Therapy sessions will include you and your partner, spouse, or significant other at any stage in your relationship. I enjoy seeing couples early on in their relationship, as well as couples who have spent many years together. Each relationship is different, and I typically include individual sessions for each member of the couple in the beginning of treatment as well as throughout the course of treatment to ensure progress and satisfaction on both sides of the relationship. Should We Consider Couples Therapy?
Partners choose to visit me for couples therapy for a variety of reasons. Some of the ways couples therapy sessions can help you and your romantic partner include:
Creating a safe space to discuss problems you’re experiencing with emotional and physical intimacy.
Handling conflict for couples who find themselves arguing more often, having bigger “blowout” fights, or who are struggling to resolve issues.
Rebuilding trust after infidelity, deception, or other concerns that prevent couples from feeling safe to express themselves and be vulnerable in their relationships.

What Happens During Couples Therapy?
Every couples therapy session will be unique because we’re addressing the concerns you and your partner bring to the table. However, the basic format of therapy sessions is simple – we’re here to just talk. During your initial session, we will work together to determine why you and your partner have chosen to start the therapy process. I will ask questions about your relationship’s past, present, and future. We will work together to create a plan for ongoing work during your therapy sessions. In order to achieve the desired results, I will usually need to meet with you and your partner individually in addition to talking during couples sessions. These individual sessions often shed light on areas we need to address during therapy with your partner, but these meetings are also time for you to work through individual concerns you feel may hold you back from developing your best relationship. I use emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT) as a framework to assist couples in better understanding, accepting, and supporting each other.
What Results Should We Expect from Couples Therapy?
In most cases, the goal of couples therapy is to help you and your partner to create a healthy, thriving relationship. It takes work from both parties to achieve this goal, but when couples are committed to the process, they can expect to lead healthier, more satisfying lives. Unfortunately, some relationships are just not good for us. Couples therapy can also help you and your partner to dissolve your relationship in a safe and mutually beneficial way. I will work with you to make a plan that ensures the safety, health, and happiness of you and your partner.
